As a new parent, you probably have lots on your plate, so it’s important to me that your newborn photo session is as comfortable as possible for you, your family, and your baby. When you come into my Medford, NJ studio for your newborn session, I want it to be as easy as handing me your baby, relaxing, and letting me work my magic!
We specialize in newborn photography, capturing your tiny baby’s sweet details so you will have tangible memories of this time of their life that goes so quickly! The goal is to create images that will take you back to when they were so impossibly small and precious.
Here are some tips to ensure that your newborn photography session goes as smoothly as possible and results in photos you love. Here are five things to pack for your newborn photos.
1. Extra Bottles
Babies can be unpredictable, so be sure to bring extra bottles just in case, if you are bottle-feeding. If you’re nursing, I have lots of cozy places to sit with your baby. Sometimes, little food in the belly can calm the baby and get them to nod off for us more quickly.
Also, if you are bringing siblings, a few snacks to keep them occupied (and, let’s be honest, to bribe them a bit) is a great idea.

2. Baby’s Favorite Pacifier
If your baby takes a pacifier, be sure to bring it along. This can help soothe baby and help them fall asleep. Bring it along even if your baby does not always take a paci. Being prepared is always best! And if you’re new to paci life… we have brand new pacifiers in the studio that you are welcome to use (and keep, of course!)
3. Comfy Clothes for Baby
I always recommend that you dress baby in loose, comfortable clothing for their newborn session. We will be doing a lot of positions and wrapping baby, so clothing that is easy to take on and off is best, such as sleepers with snaps and zippers. Most babies hate having things pulled over their heads, so the easier to remove, the better. The sleepier and happier we can keep them, the smoother your session will be overall!
4. Comfy Clothes for Mom and Dad!
My studio is climate-controlled for the baby’s comfort, so it can get toasty warm inside! If you are having photos taken with your baby, then you may want to bring a change of clothes that is a bit cooler to change into when we are done with your photos (or wear layers).
5. A Kid Wrangler For Siblings
It can be a big help (if possible) to have family members come along and help you with your other children for your newborn session. If we’re taking photos with the siblings and your newborn together, we can do that first so the “big kids” can go home or to a local park while we finish the newborn photos.
If this is not possible, it’s a good idea to bring toys or books to help entertain them.
